| Immediately after finishing my preparation at UCF, I taught middle school math for three years. I went to grad school and received a degree in school counseling. I am proud to say that I am currently a school guidance counselor. I was also a panelist in the first annual Minority Programs in Education Annual Scholars Conference in 2006. I am currently in my eigth year of education, stemming from my days of substituting. |

Rodney Bellamy
'97
College of Education and MPIE Alumnus
In the short time that Mr. Bellamy had worked in the school system, he had been promoted to Assistant Principal for the sixth grade at Markham Woods Middle School in Lake Mary, Florida. Mr. Bellamy was also featured as an alumni panelist at the Minority Programs in Education Second Annual Scholars Conference in February 2007. There he spoke to current MPIE scholars about the responsibilities that come with a career in teaching. The feedback received from the scholars in regards to Mr. Bellamy’s panel discussion confirmed how engaging and useful his information was to the students.

Amanda Lannan

2006 UCF Alumni Association’s Rising Star Award
Ms. Lannan received her master’s degree in varying exceptionalities at the College of Education and is at work today teaching at Orlando’s Princeton Elementary School. Now in her third year as a teacher, technology plays a key role in her classroom. The computers have speech synthesizers so they can “talk.” Princeton Elementary is a science magnet school, and her class has talking globes, measuring cups and other implements. She teaches language arts and mathematics, but also is responsible for adapting the entire curriculum so she can help the children with other subjects. Amanda and her four students are blind.

Kristen Springfield

2006 Professional Achievement Award
At Sanford Middle School, Kristin Springfield teaches seventh and eighth grade mathematics using creative methods to inspire gifted students. Kristin received the Professional Achievement Award from the College of Education. A teacher for 17 years, and National Board Certified, she was Florida's representative for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and was honored at ceremonies in Washington, DC. Her recognition earned a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

Joan Gibbons

Joan McCormick-Gibbons earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from UCF in March 1980 when the Golden Knights were still on the quarter system and just started playing football!Fond memories include the first snow storm while living in Dorm B and enjoying the ice created by maintenance crews who forgot to turn off the sprinkler system the night before the freezing weather arrived! Joan has been a school teacher/administrator for 23 years in Martin County, Florida in parochial, prep, and public schools. She earned her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University and has completed coursework toward her doctorate. Joan has been married for 25 years, has three children (one of whom is a junior at FSU in elementary education)and resides in Martin County, Florida. She is proud to be an elementary school principal at an award winning school!
