Portfolio Evidences for the B.S. in Art Education
Please note: Choose from the following list of evidences that match FEAP competencies, and may be used for the Portfolio or Livetext requirements. Note that a reflection on the readings can be used (most likely with a few adjustments) as your reflection for a piece of evidence in your portfolio, not as a piece of evidence. Your evidence must be a primary source (i.e. the actual article you reflected on).
Other pieces of evidence may be equally effective: see your advisor for more specific information on other possible choices.

FEAP 1: Assessment
Evidence 1: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Assessment style diagnosis- Students will examine and formulate visual arts assessment procedures by reading a reflecting upon assigned text that describes assessment techniques in art education.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Group Assessment Model- created by students for potential assessment in the Art education Secondary classroom .
Evidence 3: from Internship I & II
Internship- Student teachers must devise methods for assessment of self and of student. A rubric or written assessment method that was developed for teacher and/or student use during the internship.
FEAP 2: Communication
Evidence 1: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Lesson Plan unit - The student will design and present a comprehensive five-lesson unit plan. As a cumulative unit, students must research related contemporary artists, write lesson plans to accompany their work, and present the plans in a PowerPoint presentation.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Portfolio Materials - Students will create a cover letter and Teaching Philosophy.
Evidence 3: from ARE 4453- Studio Experiences in Art Education
Communication via symbols in artwork- Studio pieces must show cumulative ability to convey meaning appropriate to the artist's intent.
Evidence 4: from Internship I & II
Internship- Student teachers must communicate effectively to Advising teacher and University coordinator so that internship needs are assessed and met; interns must communicate with their students interpersonally and effectively. Evidence may be a letter home to parents that relates to the classroom environment or specific projects that the intern works on with students.
FEAP 3: Continuous Improvement
Evidence 1: from ARE 4352 and/or ARE 4356- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Museum visit- Students will attend at least one community arts venue, i.e. museum or gallery, create a sketch of the artwork that is viewed, and may use this information in the summative course activity.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Resume Development- As part of a unit designed to prepare students for a job interview, the student must develop a current resume with updated information and objective.
Evidence 3: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Lesson plan unit - The student will design and present a comprehensive five-lesson unit plan. As a cumulative unit, students must research 5 contemporary artists, write lesson plans to accompany their work, and present the plans in a power point presentation.
Evidence 4: from ARE 4453- Studio Experiences in Art Education
Research Paper and Presentation - -Students will research and study contemporary artists working with alternative media. They may use work examples to evidence how personal growth has been made by reflecting on the contemporary art works.
Evidence 5: from Internship I & II
Internship - Student teachers must show improvement as a student teacher, as per self and advising teacher evaluations.
FEAP 4: Critical Thinking
Evidence 1: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Research Analysis- The student will develop reflective practicing skills through critical response and analysis of contemporary research and theory in Art Education by reading and reflecting on five Contemporary Peer Reviewed Journals, selected by instructor.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
Art criticism reflections- The student will write critically about contemporary works of art, including what they feel how students will someday respond to it.
Evidence 3: from ARE 4453- Studio Experiences in Art Education
Final Studio Multi-piece artwork - Students must create artwork that displays personal content and skill mastery
Evidence 4: from Internship I & II
Internship - Student must display the ability to adapt lessons and approach for each classroom and internship assignment
FEAP 5: Diversity
Evidence 1: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Diversity Analysis- Review of Exceptionalities and their inclusion within the discipline of Art Education. From Gaitskell & Gaitskell's (1995) Children with Special Needs, the students will present the content withing Chapter 4 or create a personal reflection to it.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
Diversified Cultural Content- The student will identify and explore diverse content for art appreciation by choosing artists of different ethnic backgrounds as material for their end of Unit Lesson Plan.
Evidence 3: from ARE 4250- Art for Exceptionalities
Annotated bibliography Final Project- Students must choose a contemporary exceptionalities issue and elaborate upon it with extensive examples of research and reflection on it's relationship to the discipline of Art Education.
Evidence 4: from Internship I & II
Internship- Student must display the ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of exceptional students, including ESOL students.
FEAP 6: Ethics
**ALL STUDENTS must use the FLORIDA CODE OF ETHICS as the first source of evidence. Additionally, students must choose and reflection on one or more of the following pieces of evidence:
Evidence 1: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
Ethics in Art Criticism- In reflections written concerning selected art criticism journal articles, students discuss teacher concerns about perspectives of ethics embedded within art work.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4250- Art for Exceptionalities
Exceptional Student Observation and Reflection- Students must observe exceptional students in the classroom and comment upon their ethical treatment.
Evidence 3: from Internship I & II
Internship- Developing a perspective on the ethical concerns of teaching children: Modeling an ethical teacher.
FEAP 7: Human Development & Learning
Evidence 1: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
How we understand art (1992) by Michael Parsons - Students will read and present on the reading, developing their knowledge of human development and learning as related to art.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
Modified Lesson Plans - The student will modify lesson plans for specific classrooms and will give a presentation of the lesson, demonstrating knowledge of human development and learning as related to art.
Evidence 3: from Internship I & II
Internship - Students will apply their knowledge of human development and learning and be assessed on this by Internship Coordinator and Supervising Teacher. Students may write a narrative observation from their experiences in the classroom, or write about specific groups of students.
FEAP 8: Knowledge of Subject Matter
Evidence 1: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Lesson Plan Unit - Students will create a final unit plan for secondary students that demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and teaching strategies.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Lesson Plan Unit - Students will create a final unit plan for secondary students that demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and teaching strategies.
Evidence 3: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
Museum Critiques - Students will complete a number of formal written art critiques that will demonstrate their knowledge of art criticism.
Evidence 4: from ARE 4453- Studio Experiences in Art Education
Research Project - Students will create work that reflects on contemporary art aesthetics, and document growth in the discipline content of artistic growth. This will be documented in the end of semester critique.
Evidence 5: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
Art Criticism - Students will read and present on several readings and articles that develop knowledge of art criticism.
Evidence 6: from Internship I & II
Internship - Students will apply their knowledge of subject matter and be assessed on this by Internship Coordinator and Supervising Teacher. Evidence may be lesson plans and accompanying images that the teacher has used as lesson examples.
FEAP 9: Learning Environments
Evidence 1: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Observation - Students will observe an elementary or secondary art classroom, developing their knowledge on learning environments.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Classroom Management - Students will investigate classroom management options specifically concerning the discipline of the art education classroom. This will be managed through class readings and reflections. Specifically, Little,B.E. (1990) Secondary Art Education and Anthology of Issues, Reston, VA; NAEA. Chapter 7.
Evidence 3: from Internship I & II
Internship - Students will apply their knowledge of learning environments and be assessed on this ability by Internship Coordinator and Supervising Teacher. Specific plans that relate to possible or theoretical learning environment changes in internship may be used.
FEAP 10: Planning
Evidence 1: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Lesson Plan Unit- The student will design and present a comprehensive five-lesson unit plan, demonstrating knowledge of planning.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Lesson Plan Unit - The student will design and present a comprehensive five-lesson unit plan, demonstrating knowledge of planning.
Evidence 3: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism
Lesson Plan Unit - The student will design and present a comprehensive four-lesson unit plan, demonstrating knowledge of planning and content connections to contemporary art aesthetics.
Evidence 4: from Internship I & II
Internship - Student will apply knowledge of planning and be assessed on this ability by Internship Coordinator and Supervising Teacher. Units or lessons that are created or adapted by the art education intern may be used if they include references and/or work examples.
FEAP 11: Role of the Teacher
Evidence 1: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Observations - Students will observe an elementary or secondary art classroom, developing their knowledge about the role of a teacher.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Observations - Students will observe an elementary or secondary art classroom, developing their knowledge about the role of a teacher.
Evidence 3: from Internship I & II
Internship - Student will apply knowledge of the role of the teacher and be assessed on this ability by Internship Coordinator and Supervising Teacher. First day reports and bi-weekly narratives may be used to evidence growth and the change of roles from student to teacher.
FEAP 12: Technology
Evidence 1: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Internet Research - The student will work with the World Wide Web as a teacher resource, developing their knowledge of technology.
Evidence 2: from ARE 4352- Teaching Art in the Secondary School
Lesson Plan Proposal - The student will create presentations of lesson plans and artwork using PowerPoint, demonstrating their knowledge of technology.
Evidence 3: from ARE 4351- Teaching Art in the Elementary School
Lesson Plan Proposal - The student will create presentations of lesson plans and artwork using PowerPoint, demonstrating their knowledge of technology.
Evidence 4: from ARE 4356- Teaching Art Appreciation & Criticism

Internship - Student will apply knowledge of the role of the teacher and be assessed on this ability by Internship Coordinator and Supervising Teacher. Presentations that relate to research and the presentation of materials related to actual lessons may be used.
