Graduate Degrees

The University of Central Florida offers the Masters of Arts in Higher Educational Leadership/Community College Education track with specializations in Art, English, Math, Science and Social Sciences. The degree is comprised of 42 credit hours, of which 24 are core courses, and 18 are discipline specific since students should include at least 18 hours of graduate-level courses (discipline specific, as offered through by the UCF College of Arts and Sciences) into the program of study. It is important to see an advisor in the College of Arts and Humanities or the College of Sciences, and/or contact Dr. Miller if courses are difficult to schedule in the content area.

Students electing this track will not meet state requirements for teacher certification in middle school (grades 5-9) or secondary (grades 6-12) mathematics.

Master of Arts, Educational Leadership, Higher Education/Community College
Community College Education Track Students applying for the Master of Arts/Community College Track must submit their GRE scores (minimum of 840) and should have a GPA of 3.0. The application process is done online.

REQUIRED COURSES: 42 CREDIT HOURS MINIMUM

Area A: Core - 24 Credit Hours
Students in this track should consult with the Community College Education Track advisor (Dr. Miller) regarding Core requirements.

  • EDH 6053 The Community College in America (3 hours)
  • EDH 6081 Contemporary Problems in the Community College (3 hours)
  • EDH 6204 Community College Organization, Administration and Supervision
    (3 hours)
  • EDH 6215 Community College curriculum (3 credits)
  • EDH 6305 Teaching and Learning in the Community College (3 credits)
  • EDF 6481 Fundamentals of Graduate Research (3 credits)
  • IDS 6504 Adult Learning (3 credits)
  • EDF 6432 Measurement and Evaluation in Education (3 hours) or EDF 6401 Statistics for Educational Data (3 credits)

Area B: Specialization Courses - 18 Graduate Credit Hours
These courses will consist of 6 graduate courses in one of the following areas:

  • Art
  • English
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Science (history, political science, economics, sociology)

The total number of hours required for a community college education track is 42 graduate credits.
