CED Procedural Guidelines: Even Rule
TO: CED Faculty Members
RE: Even Rule
It is the policy of the College of Education that faculty members will commitment time to grants on an “even basis” over the term of the grant. This means that the faculty member’s salary (PAF) will reflect the same FTE or percent of salary commitment for the fall semester, spring semester, and the summer semester.
For example, if the term of the grant is from 01-01-07 through 12-31-07 and the faculty member is committing .05 FTE to the grant, the PAF would show a .05 FTE across all three semesters. The commitment could be funded by grant funds or E&G funds, if approved by the faculty member’s Department Chair and by the Dean or designee. If E&G funds are used, a match account will be set up and the CED Budget Office will draw funds from this account to pay part of the faculty member’s salary.
Action required:
- Proposals for external funding must explicitly show the faculty member’s FTE or percent of salary on the grant for each semester.
- If the external funding is received, the ORC will set up a match account if needed, the Department will submit the a PAF to reflect the change in funding for the faculty member and the CED Budget Office will draw funds from the match account to cover the faculty member’s salary.
As proposals are submitted, they will be reviewed for compliance with the Even Rule.
