Overview

Clinical experiences provide students with a broad range of instructional opportunities in various school settings developed through cooperative planning with local school district administrators and teachers. Clinical experiences are an integral part of education programs and consist of early practicum experiences, as well as internships.
Placement of students is the responsibility of the College of Education’s Office of Clinical Experiences. Students must complete internship experiences in one of the College of Education’s local partnership districts.

Students must be aware: criminal records may prevent placement in internship and/or employment in districts. Each school district follows state guidelines for fingerprinting and some districts have additional requirements. All applications for internships are accessed at the Clinical Experiences website and are approved by the Office of Clinical Experiences. Once applications are approved by the Office of Clinical Experiences, students must register themselves for the internship course and corequisites (if applicable).

To Our Interns

Education is the most noble profession. As educators, we have the ability to positively influence so many. In turn, many more will be influenced by the contagious inspiration we have instilled in those we teach. While you have learned so many effective teaching strategies that are supported by research, always remember that you are in a people business. The way you communicate with your students, your students' parents, your colleagues, and the rest of the community, can determine your success. You have so many daily choices as an educator. Choose to teach with passion, choose to teach students for who they are; know their stories and help them shape their future. Be the light in our profession and maintain the highest amount of dignity, honor, respect, and professionalism.

I believe Christa McAuliffe said it best when she said, "I touch the future; I teach."

Dr. Bryan Zugelder, Director

"By virtue of their leadership capacity, teachers are traditionally held to a high moral standard in the community."
