Educational Leadership

Michael Blasewitz, Ph.D.
Dr. Blasewitz is in his 27th year in public education. This is his fourth year at the helm of Winter Springs High School and his 18th year as a principal. Prior to joining the Seminole County family in 2004 he served students in Orange County for 23 years. Dr. Blasewitz received his Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education degree from Florida State University in 1979. He received his Masters of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Nova University in 1987. In 1996 he received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Blasewitz has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences on topics such as school improvement, law studies, literacy strategies for reluctant readers, and school law. He is an active member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Florida Association of School Administrators, the Seminole Association of School Administrators, and Phi Delta Kappa Educational Association.

Higher Education and Policy Studies

Gloria Laureano, Ed.D.
Dr. Gloria Laureano is director for the Office of First Year Advising and Exploration at the University of Central Florida. She holds a BA degree in Spanish Secondary Education from Purdue University, a M.A. in Educational Leadership-Student Personnel Services and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership-Higher Education Administration, both from the University of Central Florida. She has over 11 years of experience in higher education which includes experience as an academic and student services administrator, academic department administrator, undergraduate and graduate [department] advisor, and recruiter. In addition to her experience in higher education, Dr. Laureano worked with the School District of Osceola County, Florida as a substitute teacher for middle school ESOL and many other subject areas, as well as a tutor for the Migrant Student Program. In addition to her experience with the educational system, she has also worked in the private sector. She is presently involved in a grant proposal for phase III funding of ENLACE FLORIDA (Engaging Latino Communities for Education) through a partnership with other Florida state universities. She serves on the steering committee for "Count Me In", a community engagement project from the Foundation for Orange County Schools, Inc., is a member of the Hispanic American Professional and Business Women's Association in Central Florida, chairs the Hispanic Retention Committee at the university, was appointed to serve on the Alcohol Advisory Committee at the university, and is an active member of the School Advisory Council at Odyssey Middle School in Orange County. Dr. Laureano has served as an adjunct at the University of Central Florida in the Educational Studies and Educational Research, Technology, and Leadership departments.

Jill Geraghty, Ed.D.
Dr. Jill Geraghty is an adjunct instructor in the Higher Education & Policy Studies (HEPS) academic program, teaching courses in the Educational Leadership Higher Education/Community College Education track. Dr. Geraghty is the director of the Employ Florida Banner Center for Health Sciences at Valencia Community College. She has been in higher education for over 14 years in various areas including human resources, admissions, academic advising, career services and alumni relations. She also worked for the private sector providing distance learning services to colleges and universities. Dr. Geraghty is an associate faculty member at Valencia Community College, where she has taught since 2005. She also taught undergraduate courses at UCF in 2004 and 2006. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Master of Arts and Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership, all from UCF. In addition to her work in higher education, Dr. Geraghty is a freelance copyeditor and a licensed Florida Real Estate Sales Associate/Realtor.

Kerry P. Welch, Ph.D.
Dr. Welch has served as the Director of the Office of Student Involvement at the University of Central Florida since July, 2004. Prior to his move to UCF, he received his Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati in Urban Educational Leadership where he advised a variety of areas as the Assistant Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development including Student Government, fraternities and sororities, community service organization(s),and campus programming boards from 1995-2004. Also at the University of Cincinnati, he was the Coordinator for the Racial Awareness program from 1991 -1995. Kerry has a Masters Degree in Counselor Education and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, also from the University of Cincinnati. Kerry has presented at numerous local, regional and national conferences and published research regarding action research in higher education and the effective development of student center space. He is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the Southern Association of College Student Administrators (SACSA), the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA), and the Association for Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA)

Nancy L. Marshall, Ed.D.
Dr. Marshall has twenty years of experience in higher education and student development. She has served as the assistant chief of staff in the President's Office since May 2001. Prior to joining the president's staff, she spent four and a half years in the General Counsel's Office. She also directs the President's Leadership Council, whose members represent the university and the president at official university functions.
She earned her B.A. in philosophy from Florida Technological University and her M.A. in English literature and Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Central Florida.

Instructional Technology

Dr. Larry Bedenbaugh, Ph.D.
Since 2004, Dr. Larry Bedenbaugh has been the jack of all trades filling the position of Coordinator of Information Services for the Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence (FLaRE) project housed at UCF. Prior to joining FLaRE, Dr. Bedenbaugh taught 24 years in Seminole County Public Schools, last serving as an educational technology facilitator. His undergraduate and Master's work was in Math Education, his Specialist's work was in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on technology integration, and his Doctoral dissertation focused on first year teacher perceptions of preparedness to meet national educational technology standards. Dr. Bedenbaugh has designed several e-learning environments both for the college and for private business. He has conducted workshops and made conference presentations throughout the state and country on various aspects of reading, family literacy, and technology integration practices. His current research interests include information literacy and critical thinking skills, instructional technology best practices, teacher technology standards aligned with beginning teacher programs, and the use of graphic novels for motivation and instruction.

Ronald Tarr, M.A., (ABD) is a senior research faculty member at the University of Central Florida and Director of Advanced Performance Technologies at UCF's Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) and has a joint appointment as Program Director, Simulation and Performance Technology at the Center for Advanced Transportation Simulation Systems. The primary focus of his efforts have been on applied research of current technologies, (including information, simulation and learning technologies), in adult learning non-traditional situations, ranging from entry level to post doctoral professional development, within the federal, state and local levels. His products and workshops are being used across multiple communities. His recent projects include integration of soft skills into the IT workforce through a program he developed called Prime Skills, advanced applications for the DoD Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative, high tech web based training for NASA engineers, development and conducting of the Defense Modeling and Simulation Education program, non-traditional education for Forensic Scientist, research into the utility of COTS PC based video games for support of military training, redesign of a systems model for workforce education and most recently in the world of Intelligent Transportation and enhancing driver performance through simulation and learning technology. He is a retired Army officer who served for 22 years in a variety of command and staff positions. He has a BA Degree from Florida State in Anthropology/Social Science, a M.A. in Instructional Systems also from FSU, where he also did doctoral courses and research and is working on a PhD in Modeling and Simulation here at UCF. He has conducted research and workshops on distributed simulations and learning technology applications across the full spectrum of government, industry and academia.
