Jo Ann M. Whiteman has an Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction and has experience in education, corporate training, web-based learning and web-course design; working in post-secondary and corporate training in teaching and designing web-based courses. She serves as Program Coordinator of a Bachelor of Science's Degree in Technical Education & Industry Training as well as a Master's in Career & Technical Education that prepares classroom teachers to develop, evaluate and apply subject matter expertise to the learning process. As a clinical supervisor of career and technical education undergraduate and graduate student interns she observes an individual moving from a subject matter expert (SME) to teaching/training an occupation to others. She teaches graduate and undergraduate level career and technical education courses consisting of teaching the adult learner, course construction in business education, professional roles of the vocational teacher, general methods and testing evaluation in vocational education, course construction in industrial education, special needs of vocational students, curriculum development techniques for industry training, safety in the technical education classroom and laboratory, issues in career education, research in career education and the history of career education in the U.S. She has published articles focusing in on the adult learner, online learning, interpersonal communication in computer mediated learning, relevance of education and training in a business environment, business curriculum development in the community college. Her non-teaching professional assignments and activities include facilitating groups for the Florida's Workforce e-learning forum-Florida Distance Learning Consortium, folio reviewer for the Florida Department of Education, Editor of online newsletters and journal. She continues to present teaching, learning and using the web to local schools, districts and companies in an effort to encourage lifelong learning and professional development in both corporate and education environments.
