I began working as an Assistant Professor in the Counselor Education Program at UCF in 2007. Whereas one can review my vita for my level of professional involvement, what isn't evident is my personal philosophy. This philosophy can be summed up in several "personal mantras" that I am quick to throw out to students, supervisees, and clients alike. The first is "Trust the Process." Trusting the process involves acknowledging and accepting your current feelings, circumstances, and experiences. Without such acceptance as a necessary first step, you will find yourself being stressed (or anxious or lost or...) about being stressed. It does not imply that nothing can or should change in these feelings, circumstances, and experiences, but without first freeing the energy held captive by non-acceptance, movement is difficult if not impossible. Boiled down, it means that things will work out the way that they are supposed to work out - maybe not the way that you want them to, but there IS meaning behind the experience - you just need to discover it. Another saying that I love is "Its all about Balance." Balance is an existential view of wellness - summed up, it means that you have to find meaning in the wellness activities that you choose to meet your holistic health needs. Finally, "Es lo que es" is my Spanish version of "It is what it is," which should clearly define the need for acceptance (there it is again) for one's current situation before one is able to move beyond the situation. I'd love to speak to you more about these (and other) defining statements, so call, email, or stop by soon.
