Q: What is the FTCE?

A:  The FTCE is a series of three tests/exams that assist the Florida Department of Education in determining candidates for professional certification.

Q: What is the Suggested Test Prep for undergraduates?

A:  It is recommended that all students participate in FTCE Workshop Series before attempting the three (3) tests/exams.  Below are guidelines related to the students’ Academic Plan of Study.

GKT  General Knowledge Test Before participating in upper-division (3000-4000) courses in the College of Education and Human Performance
SAE  Subject Area Exam Before the Internship I (Junior Internship) experience, and after consulting with the program coordinator or advisor.
PET  Professional Educators Test Before the Internship II (Senior Internship) experience, after the courses below have been successfully completed
  • EDF 4603   Analysis and Application of Ethical, Legal and Safety Issues in Schools
  • EDF 4467   Learning Theory & Assessment
  • EDG 4410  Teaching Strategies & Classroom Management
  • RED ………… at least one (1) reading strategies course, and
  • TSL ………… at least one (1) ESOL principles & practices course.

Q:  May non-education majors take the FTCE?

A:  Yes.  The series is required for graduation for Education Majors, but non-education majors may also register for any or all components of the FTCE.

Q: Who do I contact do learn more about specific testing needs, like requesting more time on certain sections of the exam(s)?

A: Pearson Evaluation Systems prefers to work individually with certificate candidates inquiring about specific testing needs.
