Judo champ Rieko Sasaki developed her passion for the sport while growing up in Okayama, Japan. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education (P.E.) from the University of Tsukuba.
Sasaki continued to enhance her judo skills while teaching P.E. and becoming a police officer in Japan. She relocated to South Florida to teach Japanese and judo at the Somerset Academy in Pembroke Pines, Fla.
After three years, she moved to Orlando to be with her husband Shinjiro Sasaki and become our college’s Sport and Exercise Science adjunct instructor. She teaches the program’s judo and self-defense courses and coaches the UCF Judo Team.
Sasaki has another accomplishment under her belt. She became a world judo champion after winning a gold medal during the 2016 IJF Veterans World Judo Championships in Fort Lauderdale.
