Hour of Code Teaches 500 Elementary School Students STEM

(l-r) Drs. Laurie O. Campbell and Megan Nickels organized the 2016 Hour of Code.

Hour of Code, organized by our college’s Assistant Professors Drs. Laurie O. Campbell and Megan Nickels, taught 500 students from Lake Gem and Wilson Elementary Schools how to create computer code in the Education Complex gymnasium.

Hour of Code is a national campaign that promotes computer coding. President Obama joined the cause and wrote his first line of code during the event in 2014.

Nearly 90 CEDHP, CECS, and other student volunteers interacted with the elementary children by programming Dash robots, playing games, and participating in fun-filled STEM activities.
