Project ELEVATE Assists Gifted Students in Title I Schools

Project ELEVATE team (l-r): Dr. Erhan Selcuk Haciomeroglu, Dr. Haiyan Bai, Dr. Gillian Eriksson, Dr. Vicky Zygouris-Coe, Jenni Sanguiliano, Dr. Joyce Nutta, and Dr. Malcolm Butler

Our college's Gifted Education program coordinator Dr. Gillian Eriksson and her team received the U.S. Department of Education's Jacob K. Javits grant in 2015.

In collaboration with Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS), the five-year, $2.4 million federal grant is funding the English Learner Excellence eVolving through Advanced Teacher Education (ELEVATE) project geared towards increasing the number of gifted and talented students from underserved populations.

Dr. Eriksson is the project's UCF principal investigator and has been working closely with SCPS' principal investigator, school psychologist, and UCF Gifted Certificate program graduate Jeanette Lukens to identify and serve high-ability, gifted, and talented learners from low-income areas and English Language Learners.

Project ELEVATE is featured in an Orlando Sentinel story.
