Educational Studies
The Master of Education in Teacher Leadership is designed for professionally certified educators who are interested in playing a leadership role within their schools and expanding their knowledge base. The program exposes participants to new trends in education, allowing them to combine teaching with other functions, be it writing curriculum, conducting research or providing professional development for fellow teachers.
Teacher Leadership is a 33-credit program with a required core of six three-credit classes. Students must also choose a specialization from among the following disciplines: Curriculum Leadership, Gifted Education, and Urban Education. To meet the needs of working students, the program offers numerous online (W) courses. Mixed-mode courses (M), which combine online learning with face-to-face instruction, are also available. To ensure course availability, it is strongly recommended that students develop a plan of study in conjunction with their advisor and that they follow the suggested schedule throughout their program. To view plans of study by specialization, please click on the ‘Plans of Study’ link on our website home page sidebar.
Important note: This degree does not prepare students for administrative or supervisory certification. In addition, this program does not lead to a Florida Professional Certificate.

As a capstone experience, the Teacher Leadership program requires an action research plan/research design for school improvement in which students collect and analyze data, write a research report, and complete an equity audit of their school research site.
Students are also required to successfully complete a comprehensive examination, which is administered in conjunction with the capstone experience in EDF 6635 (Teacher Leadership for Educational Equity and Social Justice). Comprehensive exam questions are prepared by program faculty.
