As you work through the scripts, fewer and fewer hints will be provided. If you have already been working on a sketch during this session, shut down and restart the Sketchpad program to insure that your letter labels will match the labels mentioned in this script. Before you print a sketch, be sure that your name and conclusions are on the sketch. Display, Preferences, Points on Make two points, selecting both (Should be fairly far apart) Construct, Line Make point C, not on line AB but not too close Select point A and point C Construct, Line Select line AB and point C Construct, Parallel Select line AC and point B Construct, Parallel Select the line parallel to AB through C and the line parallel to AC through B Construct, Point at Intersection, (point D) NOTE: you might have to adjust your sketch to have it all on the screen Select point B, then point A, then point C Measure, Angle BAC Select C, then D, then B Measure, Angle CDB Observe the measures as you move each of the four points Make a text box in which to type your name and conclusions You may elect to print your sketch at this point or wait until you complete the sketch Continue on the same sketch Select line AB and point C Construct, Perpendicular Select the new perpendicular line and line AB Construct, Point at Intersection, making point E Select all five lines Display, Hide all five lines Construct, Segments AB, BD, CD, AC, and CE Select segment CE Measure, Length Using the "Hand" tool, double click on the length of CE Text Format, Change "Length(Segment EC)" to HEIGHT, click OK Select segment AB Measure, Length Using the "Hand" tool and double click on the listed length of AB Text Format, Change "Length(Segment AB)" to BASE, click OK Select both the BASE and HEIGHT measures Measure, Calculate, Values, BASE*HEIGHT, OK Select points A, B, D, and C (in that order) Construct, Polygon Interior Measure, Area Observe the measures as you move each of the five points around Make a text box in which to write your conclusions You may elect to print your sketch at this point or wait until you complete the sketch Continue on the same sketch Select the BASE and HEIGHT measures Measure, Calculate (BASE * HEIGHT) / 2 Select points A, B, and C Construct, Polygon Interior Measure Area Compare all of the measures you have Observe the measures as you move all five points around Make a text box in which to write your conclusions Print >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GEOMETER'S SKETCHPAD SKETCH THREE in VERSION 4 Before you print a sketch, be sure that your name and conclusions are on the sketch.
