America Reads - Families



Families form the foundations for reading success. Loving parents nurture a child by talking, reading, singing, and rhyming. These acts also help to raise a reader. The love of reading begins at home. Here you'll find guidance and resources on being your child's first and best teacher.





BookHive is a web site designed for children ages birth through twelve, their parents, teachers or anyone interested in reading about children's books. Providing reader's advisory service, this site contains hundreds of recommended book reviews in a variety of reading levels and interest areas. Parents may find special "parental notes" attached to some reviews that provide additional information about the book. Users can search for books by author, title, reading level, interest area, number of pages, and even favorite illustrator.

Compact for Reading and School-Home Links



A Compact for Reading is a written agreement among families, teachers, principals, and students to work together to help improve the reading skills of kindergarten through third grade children. The publications, A Compact for Reading Guide and the School-Home Links Reading Kit, are designed to help Compact partners set reading goals, and provide lessons and activities that allow children to accomplish these goals.

Get Ready to Read!



Get Ready to Read! is an early literacy program designed to help parents and early education and child care professionals make sure that young children have the skills that they need to be ready to learn to read. The goal of Get Ready to Read! is to screen 4-year-olds for pre-reading skills before they enter kindergarten and provide skill-strengthening activities to ensure their reading success. Get Ready to Read! is an initiative of the National Center for Learning Disabilities.

Reading to Learn



Read To Learn is a public awareness campaign sponsored by the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Education Foundation and concerned citizens wanting to address the needs of parents impacted by the third grade reading promotion and retention requirements.
