Computer Science and Robotics

Beginning Computer Science in the Classroom TBD

Beginning Computer Science in the Classroom is a 1-day workshop facilitated by Dr. Megan Nickels that will introduce K-12 educators and content-specific teachers (math coaches, librarians, intervention specialists, etc.) to computer science basics. The workshop will utilize Wonder Workshop's Dash and Lego Mindstorm's EV3 and WeDo robots to cover content and pedagogy necessary to bring computer science to your school. Teachers will receive grade level specific materials and have the opportunity to discuss their school/district implementation needs with the workshop facilitator.

Teaching Mathematics through Robotics is a 1-day workshop facilitated by Dr. Megan Nickels focused on mathematics content and pedagogy for K-12 educators. The workshop will utilize Wonder Workshop's Dash and Lego Mindstorm's EV3 and WeDo robots. Teachers will receive grade level specific mathematics tasks aligned to state and national standards. As this is not a beginner level workshop, it is recommended that educators participate in the Beginning Computer Science in the Classroom professional development as a pre-requisite to this workshop.

Robotics Interventions for Special Populations Robotics is a 1-day workshop facilitated by Dr. Megan Nickels focused on remediating core STEM content for vulnerable populations through the use of robotics – a format meaningful and accessible to all learners. The workshop will utilize Wonder Workshop's Dash and Lego Mindstorm's EV3 and WeDo robots. Teachers will receive grade level specific STEM content tasks aligned to state and national standards (Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards). As this is not a beginner level workshop, it is recommended that educators participate in the Beginning Computer Science in the Classroom professional development as a pre-requisite to this workshop.
