Academic Partnerships

CORE (Creating Opportunities and Resources for Educators)

CORE is a collaborative partnership between a metropolitan, research university and a community college (a Hispanic serving institution). These central Florida institutions have partnered with a school district that has a Hispanic population of 44% and that is experiencing a critical shortage of teachers. The purpose of the CORE Program is to address the critical shortage of qualified teachers by assisting non-instructional personnel in the district to pursue a degree in teaching. The CORE program has promoted the success of all its students by assisting them to overcome the obstacles of distance and time, learning in isolation, problems accessing technology, and difficulty paying tuition.

Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy for Mathematics and Science

The Lockheed Martin/University of Central Florida Academy for Mathematics and Science is an education/industry/community partnership aimed at improving mathematics, science and technology education in central Florida. This unique partnership serves as a model for the educational reforms proposed by both national and state agencies by providing schools in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties with teacher-leaders who initiate, implement and sustain mathematics and science reform efforts. This innovative model could only be initiated and sustained through the visionary leaders at Lockheed Martin and the University of Central Florida.

The Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy supports two Master’s degree programs:

PACE (Paraprofessionals Acquiring Certification in Education)

In many states including the State of Florida, there is a critical shortage of qualified exceptional education teachers to serve children with high incidence disabilities. To address the shortage, this project focuses on assisting paraprofessionals who have completed their Associate of Arts degree to complete a Bachelor of Science degree and certification in special education through a public school-university partnership. This program supports the preparation and transition of paraprofessionals to certified teachers of students with high incidence disabilities in high poverty urban areas and helps address the chronic shortage of qualified and certified teachers in special education in Florida.
