Answers
1. What is the difference between the M.A. and the M.Ed.?
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) is a program designed for those who already hold teacher certification and/or are certified in the subject matter at the baccalaureate level. The Master of Arts (M.A.) is a program designed for practitioners working on earning an initial Florida teaching certificate or for non-certification areas.
2. Is the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) required for admission?
Those who plan to earn an M.Ed. or M.A. degree will be required to take the GRE. Those who intend to earn only a "certificate" will not be required to take the GRE.
3. Will Certificate Programs lead towards a M.A. or M.Ed.?
Yes. All courses in the College of Education certificate programs can be counted towards an M.A. or M.Ed. degree. Other programs at UCF may also consider these courses as transfer credits.
4. How long does it take to complete the program?
The certificate programs are designed to be completed in one calendar year. The master's degree programs can be completed in two years. Some full-time students complete the master's degree in a Summer-Fall-Spring-Summer sequence (for example, they might begin Summer 2002 and finish in Summer 2003).
5. Can I continue my present employment and be in the program?
Yes. Most students are part-time students. The courses are offered in the evenings at various campuses in the Central Florida area. Your Program Coordinator will help you set up a "Plan of Study" that best suits your situation.
