TEACH Grant Program for Undergraduate Students

*HIGH-NEED FIELDS: The federal government has identified several high-need fields. The following high-need fields are available for Education majors in the College of Education and Human Performance at the University of Central Florida:

Undergraduate Programs

  • Exceptional Education (B.S.)
  • Foreign Language Education (B.S.)
  • Mathematics Education (B.S.)
  • Science Education (B.S.)

DEFINITION: The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program is a grant program authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act.

  • Those students pursuing a master's degree in teaching are eligible for scholarships up to $4,000 per year in grants to a maximum of $8,000 for a two-year master's program.

Please note: Grant amounts are determined based on the number of semester hours for which a student is enrolled.

To qualify for a TEACH Grant, you must:

  • be fully admitted to a UCF College of Education and Human Performance
  • be fully admitted TEACH Grant-eligible program
  • be enrolled in a high-need education major
  • agree to teach full time in a low income school and high-need field for a minimum of four years within eight years after completing a baccalaureate or master’s degree.

A TEACH Grant recipient who does not complete the required teaching service within eight years of completing the academic program, must repay the TEACH Grant as a Direct Unsubsidized Loan with interest, accrued from the date the TEACH Grant was disbursed.
ELIGIBILITY: Students identified as pursuing a degree in a high-need field who agree to the terms of the TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve may be eligible to receive a TEACH Grant. Student eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (Students do not need to demonstrate financial need.)
  • Be accepted and enrolled as a graduate student in the College of Education and Human Performance and in a TEACH Grant-eligible program (high-need field).
  • Be enrolled in coursework that is necessary to begin a career in teaching.
  • Meet academic qualifications by one of the following means:
    • For graduate students who are currently teaching and enrolled in ME.d. programs - maintain at least a cumulative 3.0 (overall) grade point average through the most recent payment period.
    • For graduate students in MA programs - maintain a minimum 3.25 grade point average through the most recent payment period.
  • Maintain good academic progress with required GPAs as described above.
  • Sign the TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve after attending an initial TEACH Grant counseling session.
  • Students pursuing a master's degree must be admitted to the UCF College of Graduate Studies.

TEACH GRANT RECIPIENT OBLIGATIONS: A TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve must be signed each year that a student receives a TEACH Grant. The TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve specifies the conditions under which the grant will be awarded, including the teaching service requirements.

    • Individuals must serve as a full-time teacher for a total of at least four academic years within eight calendar years after completing or withdrawing from the academic program for which he/she received the TEACH Grant.
    • Individuals must perform the teaching service as a highly-qualified teacher at a low-income school.
    • The teaching service must be in a high-need field.
    • Individuals must comply with any other requirements that the Department of Education determines to be necessary.
    • IMPORTANT REMINDER: If you do not complete the required teaching service obligation, TEACH Grant funds received will be converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan that must be repaid with interest charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement.

INTERESTED STUDENTS SHOULD:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), although they do not have to demonstrate financial need.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Be accepted and enrolled as a qualified undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Education and Human Performance in a high-need field. Graduate students must also be admitted to the College of Graduate Studies.
  • Meet certain academic achievement requirements (for M.Ed., maintain a cumulative/overall grade point average of 3.0. For M.A students, maintain a cumulative/overall grade point average of 3.25).

QUALIFIED STUDENTS WILL:

  • Be required to complete a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve (through the College of Education and Human Performance TEACH Grants website) each semester they receive a TEACH Grant;
  • Complete an exit counseling session at the time they declare their Intent to Graduate.
